FRA Junior Championships - Categories and Rules
Categories:
Ages are as on 1st January at the start of the championship year - currently
2010.
Other organisations may have different rules for determining age groups.
- Under 12 and over 10 Boys and Girls - born between 2/1/1998 and 1/1/2000.
- Under 14 and over 12 Boys and Girls - born between 2/1/1996 and 1/1/1998.
- Under 16 and over 14 Boys and Girls - born between 2/1/1994 and 1/1/1996.
- Under 18 and over 16 Boys and Girls - born between 2/1/1992 and 1/1/1994.
This makes a total of eight categories.
If the age of an under 12 competitor is not known, then that
competitor will not be eligible for the championship.
A competitor may only run in their permitted age category.
Championships Scoring:
- All competitors must register with the FRA Junior Co-ordinator by completing in full the race entry form at championship rounds.
- The first 49 in each category will score points; 50 for 1st, 48 for 2nd, 47 for 3rd, and so on ....
- Points are allocated according to the positions in the final race results.
- If there is a tie in a race then both runners will be allocated the same points for the relevant position e.g. 3rd= receives 47 points.
- Up to the best 4 scores from the six championship races will count towards the final positions.
- The competitor with the highest cumulative score from her/his best 4 from 6 championship races will be the winner.
Championship Awards:
- Perpetual trophies will be awarded to the winner of each category.
- Medals will be awarded to the first 3 competitors in each category.
- In the event of a tie on points for a medal position, both competitors will receive the same medal, appropriately engraved.
- Commemorative T-shirts will be awarded to competitors, who complete a minimum of 4 races.
- A memento will be awarded to competitors, who complete all 6 races.
- A pair of fell shoes donated by Walsh Shoes will be awarded to the winner of each category.
Non-Championship Races:
The following races may be held at each championship round.
- Under 8 and over 6 (on day of race) Boys and Girls - as of today, born between 2/1/2002 and 29/07/2004.
- Under 10 and over 8 Boys and Girls - born between 2/1/2000 and 1/1/2002.
Parents please note - under age runners will NOT be covered by FRA insurance and must not be entered in races.
- No points or championship medals will be awarded.
- Commemorative T-shirts will be awarded to competitors, who complete a minimum of 4 races.
- A memento will be awarded to competitors, who complete all 6 races.
Uphill Championships:
- Categories are U12, U14, U16, U18 for boys and girls as defined above.
- Medals will be awarded to the first 3 competitors in each category.
Intermediate Championship:
Now part of the Senior Championship based on the two short and two medium races.

- As of today, born between 30/07/1987 and 29/07/1992
